Effective immediately, we have disabled our support for "Verified by Visa." You can still use your Visa credit card as a payment method, but you won't be asked to enter your "Verified by Visa" password. It seems that Visa is enforcing card holders to use this feature if the vendor (in this case, PlayCatan) supports it. To use this actually useful additional security feature, US-American card holders are asked to enter part of their social security number, otherwise the purchase can not be completed. This means that "Verified by Visa" is no longer optional but mandatory in the USA.
This, of course, can easily be misunderstood as some kind of scam, leaving people with the impression that we want to collect additional information. This is not the case, however, because it is merely the method Visa has chosen to upgrade their customers' accounts, which is totally beyond our control. To remove any suspicion regarding the need to enter part of one's social security number when making a small payment to PlayCatan, we have decided to refrain from offering the "Verified by Visa" security detail for now. |
