For computers running Linux or other UNIX-like operating systems with installed Java Runtime Environment (JRE), please download the following file: PlayCatan_3_1022_eng_linux.tgz (49 MB) for Linux / UNIX System configuration: Pentium IV / Athlon with 2 GHz or comparable / 512 MB RAM minimum / approx. 60 MB disc space Installing and RunningPlease unpack the archive into a folder where you have full write privileges at all times. You may use, for example, your home directory or also your desktop. Inside the folder "PlayCatan," please run the script "Create-Desktop-Icon.sh." This will create an icon named "PlayCatan" on your desktop. To run the PlayCatan Access Software, please activate this icon (usually by double-clicking on it). Hints for Playing in Full Screen ModeSo far, full-screen operation could not be tested successfully for Linux. However, when using Gnome, the panels (main menu bar above, tray below) can be hidden using the function “Hide - Show Buttons,” which – for a screen resolution of 1024x768 – also enables full-screen gaming in the 1024x768 windowed mode.
Hints for Java
To install the Java Runtime Environment or to update it after installation, please use the package management application that was installed with your Linux distribution. If you are using Ubuntu, you will first need to add a package repository to install Oracle Java 7. Please proceed as follows:

In case you have installed several Java versions in a parallel fashion, you have to pre-select Java 1.7 as the version to be used. In Ubuntu, you can achieve this via "sudo update-alternatives --config java."
