Catan Online World - Download - Mac OS X

For Macintosh computers, please download the following file:

onlineworld-3_680_eng_Mac-Universal.dmg (37 MB) for Mac starting with Mac OS X 10.4 „Tiger“
(Does not include the Catan Card Game)

System configuration: 512MB RAM minimum / approx. 50 MB disc space / 800x600 Display (minimum) / mouse with 2+ buttons
Recommended: Intel Core 2 Duo with 2GHz or better / Mac OS X 10.5 “Leopard” with Java Update 4 (J2SE 6) or later
In Compatibility Mode: PowerPC or Intel Core Duo / Mac OS X 10.4 „Tiger“ with Java Update 9 (J2SE 5)

Using the Compatibility Mode with Mac OS X 10.4 “Tiger” or on older Macs

The Catan Online World client is basically ready to be run on older Macintosh computers with PPC processor and/or Mac OS X 10.4 “Tiger.” However, we recommend the use of a modern Intel based Mac with 64 bit processor (Core 2 Duo or newer) and Mac OS X 10.5 “Leopard” (or newer).

To run the COW client on a Mac with an older processor (Intel Core Duo or PowerPC) and/or Mac OS X 10.4, you can switch the COW client to the compatibility mode. Afterwards, the program will also run with Java 1.5.

Please click here to learn more about the compatibility mode.

Hints for Java

JavaFor operating the COW client, "Java 2 Standard Edition, version 5.0", or short: J2SE 5 or Java 1.5 is required. However, we strongly recommend the use of J2SE 6 or Java 1.6.

  • J2SE 5 is available in Mac OS X 10.4 “Tiger” or later.
  • J2SE 6 is available in Mac OS X 10.5 “Leopard” or later, but only on Macs with a 64Bit Intel processor (Core 2 Duo or newer).

Please use Software Update on your Mac to ensure that you have installed the latest Java update on your computer.

Please note: If you are using Mac OS X 10.5 “Leopard”, you will need “Java Update 4” or newer due to a bug in the Java software.

Hints for playing in full screen mode

In Mac OS X, you can also use the 1024x768 window mode for a full-screen game if your monitor resolution is 1024x768: menu bar and dock are automatically hidden and automatically reappear upon touch with the mouse cursor.

In “Leopard,” we recommend using “Spaces.”
