Each city has special city buildings with special functions.

In addition to the Masons' Guild (house and city expansion), the Tailor Shop (clothing), and the General Store (garden and pets), there is a number of city buildings that can be expanded and improved by the citizens. These buildings give the city and its citizens special advantages and also increase the culture points of the city (culture points are crucial to come off as winner of the game period and obtain the title "Capital of Catan").

What Happens if City Expansion is Completed?

After completion of all existing buildings the donations for city expansion are applied towards "cultural expansion." Each cutural expansion level completed earns the city another 10 culture points. When starting to build a level, the cost of the level is calculated via the established "Active Citizen" formula, just as with regular buildings. Of course, no voting takes place in this case.
