Each city has special city buildings with special functions.

In addition to the Masons' Guild (house and city expansion), the Tailor Shop (clothing), and the General Store (garden and pets), there is a number of city buildings that can be expanded and improved by the citizens. These buildings give the city and its citizens special advantages and also increase the culture points of the city (culture points are crucial for winning the game period by obtaining the title "Capital of Catan").

What Happens if City Expansion is Completed?

After completion of all existing buildings the donations for city expansion are applied towards cultural expansion. Each level completed of this "cultural expansion" yields another 10 culture points for the city. When starting to build a level, the cost of the level is calculated via the established Building Officer formula, just as with regular buildings. Of course, no voting takes place in this case.
