Desert Sons Single-Player Game

The Park is located north of the city center. The Park's main characteristic is the Camel Statue with the Desert Sons Single-Player Game (Desert Sons SPG). As an option, you can activate a comprehensive tutorial that explains the rules while you play the game.

"Desert Sons - Single-Player Variant" is a slightly modified version of "Realm of the Desert Sons," a 3-4-player game you can play in the Tavern (as "Desert Sons"). You are a merchant, exploring the desert with your caravan. You are looking for valuable commodities, such as incense, myrrh, salt, and precious stones. The robbers are your competitors and try to snap the commodities before you get them. You start with 40 water. Each turn costs you one water. If you don't have water, the game is over.

The turn sequence is as follows:

1. Move the camel

Click on an intersection where you would like to start exploring the desert with your camel. During each turn, you may move any distance along brown paths, but you may only move along one white line between two intersections.

2. Draw a tile

Each tile depicts a desert, an oasis, or some combination of both. Oases may also contain action fields with commodities, camels, water, or rumors.

You may either
a) draw a tile from the stack,
b) use a matching tile from your display, or
c) pay a water to steal the robbers' tile and use the tile if it matches.

Please note that you must use a tile from your display if that display already contains 3 tiles. If you can't place any of those tiles, you must pass.

3. Place a tile

If the tile matches its surroundings (oasis adjacent to oasis, desert adjacent to desert), move it onto a green field, rotate it if necessary, and confirm its position by clicking on the arrow. If the tile does not match, it goes to your display below your character. During one of your next turns, you may place the tile at a location where it does match.

4. Place an influence stone

If you were able to place a new tile with at least one part of an oasis, you may place an influence stone now. If you have a stone in your supply, you may place it on the red circle. Sometimes, an oasis tile consists of two separate parts of an oasis. In those cases, 2 red circles appear, and you must opt for one of them.
Alternatively, one time during your turn, you also may remove an influence stone from an oasis.

Actions Performed By the Robbers
The Robbers try to participate in your discoveries and sneak their own influence stones into the oases. If the tile you are placing has two action fields, the robbers also place an influence stone. If the tile has only one action field and you don't place an influence stone there, the robbers will place a stone there. If the robbers have placed all their influence stones, they move already placed stones in accordance with the above-mentioned rules.

Oasis Rating
Once an oasis is completely explored (i.e., completely surrounded by desert), rating takes place. The influence stones all have different heights. They are lined up from high to low, in decreasing order. The influence stone marked with the turban (if there is such a stone when the rating takes place) is always the highest one. Following the order of the influence stones from high to low, you and the Robbers each choose one action per stone, in an alternating fashion. If one of your influence stones was marked with the turban when the rating took place, the robbers receive the turban, and vice versa. If you had the highest influence stone you have to pay 1 water.

Action fields

Rumors (ears) - Take one of the "ear" chips and place it on a free field next to a commodity. The number depicted on the chip changes the value of the commodity during the final rating.

Camel - In the beginning, you only have 2 camels and thus can accommodate 4 commodities. If you want to carry more commodities (and therefore, potentially more points), you have to find more camels.

Commodities - There are 4 different commodities: incense, myrrh, salt, and precious stones. They yield the points at the end of the game.

Water - It increases your water supply, which usually translates into additional turns.

End of the Game
As soon as your water supply is depleted, the game is over. Now the value of your commodities is compared with the value of the Robbers' commodities. The difference between the two values determines the number of victory points you reached. We recommend that you use the tutorial option, at least during your first few games.

You can play Desert Sons SPG as often as you like, but a game that is scored can only be started once per day. Only a scored game can be interrupted and continued later. The date the game is scored depends on the end of the game, when the score is entered. Example: If the game starts at 23:55 CET on a Tuesday and ends on 0:05 CET on a Wednesday, the score counts for Wednesday and no score is entered for Tuesday. So, every game should be ended before 0:00 CET.

In your own game overview, scored games are displayed in red. As soon as you have played a minimum of 7 scored games per month, your total score is entered into the Open Monthly List that includes all cities. The score is the average score of your best 7 games. At the end of the month, the highest ranking players receive gold.

Rank Gold
1-10 3
11-25 2
26-50 1

Depending on the Park's expansion level, the city also benefits from the results of its citizens.

Active Citizens factor
X = ——————————— ( where X is at least 15)
4

Sum of the X best individual scores of the city's citizens
City score = ———————————————————————————
X

Players who are added to the city score in the Monthly List are marked with a *. A city with many Active Citizens needs proportionally more players in the Monthly List than a city with fewer Active Citizens. In case of a tie, the "Active Citizens factor" (higher = better) decides which city has the better score. If afterwards there is still a tie, the citizen count (average number of Premium users during the last 4 weeks; higher = better) is used to determine the better score. If less than X citizens participate in Desert Sons SPG and obtain a score, the missing scores are counted as 0 for the city.

Depending on the Park's expansion level, the city benefits from an increase in culture points. The city also receives donations for city expansion, depending on its city score ranking. Only complete donations are counting.

Level 1 Level 2 Level 3
Culture Points 0 +10 +10
Place 1 50% 100% 150%
Place 2 45% 90% 140%
Place 3 40% 80% 130%
Place 4 35% 70% 120%
Place 5 30% 60% 110%
Place 6 25% 50% 100%
Place 7 20% 40% 90%
Place 8 15% 30% 80%
Place 9 10% 20% 70%
Place 10 5% 10% 60%

Example: A city with an "Active Citizens factor" of 35, which means that it needs 70 donations to finish one expansion level of a building, would receive exactly this number of donations on place 1 (the corresponding building being on level 2) and 30 donations on place 7. Expressed in a simplified manner: The city on place 1 receives a complete expansion level, while the cities on place 2-10 are paid out proportionally.

City of Explorers

The city score at the end of the month is transferred to the column "City of Explorers" (see Town Hall), where it is added to the old score. At the end of the game period, the cities occupying the first three places receive a gold statue, a silver statue, or a bronze statue, respectively, titled "City of Explorers."

Master Explorers

In addition, each score in a Desert Sons SPG is entered into the Master Explorers List (see Individual Titles). The average score, calculated as the sum of points divided by the number of games played, is crucial for the ranking position. You need 7 games to appear on the list.

The list is displayed in the chart "Citizen Titles" in the Town Hall; you can also view your current position on this list in the chart "Player Titles" in your own house. At the end of the current game period, the top 15 players on the list receive the title "Master Explorer" for the following period. A medal is awarded for the title, but no gold is distributed.
