PlayCatan closes on Jan. 29
We at Catan GmbH deeply regret that not all players could participate in the early access phase of Catan Universe because they either have a 32-bit system or couldn’t register successfully. For many who reported on this in the forum the early access phase of Catan Universe unfortunately had a rocky start, even though over 2,000 games were played last weekend. We apologize to all those who spent time on this and thank everyone for their feedback and patience. We know that our licensee USM and the team of programmers at Exozet commissioned by USM regret the problems as much as we do, and they will undertake everything in their power to solve the problems as soon as possible. Fortunately, the error regarding the activation emails has already been found and fixed, and for many of the 32-bit systems that weren’t working properly so far a solution will soon be available, provided that these systems are more or less state-of-the-art.
As you know, in mid-December the operation of PlayCatan was extended for a limited period. Since then, we could only operate PlayCatan in a kind of emergency mode. However, we would like many of our long-standing players on PlayCatan to have the opportunity to be present when the switchover to Catan Universe takes place, thus allowing them to continue playing Catan.
Therefore, we have made an effort to continue operating PlayCatan in emergency mode at no charge until the end of this month – that is, until January 29, 2016 at 10am CET– in order to solve the most urgent problems before PlayCatan closes. We also discussed this with USM, our new licensee, and they agreed.
What does “emergency mode” mean? There is still a small amount of time remaining before the PlayCatan servers have to be shut down and we will use it now. However, Klaus Teuber’s Web Games must be canceled for good on the date announced previously (January 18). For PlayCatan itself, the following applies: Even though we will continue doing our best, we cannot guarantee that everything will go smoothly because the service agreements were already terminated and our service department no longer has the necessary personnel. As mentioned earlier, the definite shutdown of PlayCatan was scheduled for mid-December 2015 and had to be prepared well in advance. Unfortunately, the kind of initial technical problems occurred with Catan Universe were not foreseeable, and we deeply regret that they emerged.
On January 29, we will be forced to close PlayCatan for good. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
