Based on suggestions and discussions in the PlayCatan forum, in the future an ELO based ranking will be adopted for the single player tournaments on PlayCatan. An ELO based ranking takes the players' playing skills into account. This new mode will be used for the first time in the 'Rivals for Catan' tournament on October 10; afterwards, the new ranking system will also be used for board game tournaments. If you would like to learn more about this topic, a document containing all pertinent information is available for download.
For several years now, Klaus Teuber releases one special card per year for his game 'Rivals for Catan'. Four of these cards were programmed now for PlayCatan and will be released on September 10. The cards are: Gavin, the Polyglot', 'Alexander and Sebastian, the Bookkeepers', 'Johannes, the Advocate' and 'Axel, the Innovator'. More Information on these cards can be found in the PlayCatan online manual. The cards will be available in the theme games and the duel first. The cards can be switched on by a new game option. The tournament mode will be following later.
Due to time-consuming activities concerning the PlayCatan user administration during the past weeks, regrettably it took us longer than planned to publish the results of our recent PlayCatan tournament survey. Now the results are finally available.
After a long hard day the maintenance work on the server is finished for now. Playing online with the PlayCatan Access Software is already possible again for some hours now. Unfortunately there were some complications with the PlayCatan main website, so it took some more time to fix that. But now the login is working there, too. Thank you very much for your patience!
After years, it has now become necessary to revise the My PlayCatan area (where, among other things, you can manage your personal information and upgrade your account) and the associated user administration. For this reason, some time ago we decided to regenerate the entire system from scratch and rework the associated processes. To activate this system, we need to perform extensive server updates, which is why starting at 10 a.m. CET on Tuesday, June 24, during several hours you will not be able to play on PlayCatan. Needless to say that we'll try to keep the downtime as short as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience, and thank you for your understanding.
On Friday, June 13 at 10 am CEST, in the official tournament area this year's third board game tournament starts. All Plus Account users can participate. The 3-day tournament ends on Monday, June 16 at 10 am CET. The following games are played on Friday: Fish for Catan, Spices for Catan and the Pirate Lairs / Saturday: Explorers and Pirates / Sunday: Explorer and Pirates CaK.
In addition to playing the regular games and participating in community tournaments, Plus Account users can participate in the official tournament weekends held periodically. We would like to hear your opinion regarding the latter, which is why we have set up a small survey for all Plus Account users. You can find it in the MyPlayCatan area, where it will be available until June 10th, replacing the previous HTML5 survey. It definitely won't take long to answer the questions. Thank you for your interest!
In order to improve the balance of the tournament game, due to popular demand we have officially modified the tournament rules for the "Rivals for Catan" card game:
1) Each player may include the 'Great Foresight' card only once in their deck.
2) Each player may include the 'Insurrection' card only once in their deck.
3) Each player may only place up to three sages in their principality.
Of course, these changes will also be implemented on PlayCatan; they are expected to become effective upon server restart on Tuesday, May 27. Afterwards, for the tournament game you can only use decks that meet the above-mentioned requirements (1 and 2).
Thank you for your feedback on the new PlayCatan website. This helps us in developing the site. For some of you, we have used our favorite color, the 'Catan Red', a little too frequently. We will revise the message window and tables again accordingly. Furthermore, we are constantly expanding our FAQ to assist with the most pressing questions. There is, for example, also explained how to enlarge the central game window easily to display most of the game field even on small screens.
